Adventure Cycling’s Leadership Training Course (LTC) is designed for experienced bicycle travelers who wish to learn our philosophy of leadership and how it applies to both our self-contained and supported bicycle tours. The LTC evolved out of Adventure Cycling’s participation in the American Youth Hostel leadership movement of the 70s and 80s. Participants will spend a little over three days with some of our most road-savvy leaders exploring the dynamics of outdoor leadership, the hows and whys of group motivation, and successful conflict resolution. We’ll also discuss bicycle repair, camping how-tos, food preparation and chore rotation, cycling safety, and more.

The Introduction to Road Touring (IRT) course shares Adventure Cycling’s expertise on self-contained bicycle travel. Two days of classroom instruction provided by some of our most seasoned trip leaders will be followed by a four-day tour. This will give you the opportunity to test ride and apply what you’ve learned during your classroom sessions.

Note that you’ll need to come to this intro course with some cycling skills and experience under your belt. But after graduating, you’ll be ready to hit the road on a loaded tour, whether it’s a solo outing, a trip with friends, or a group tour with like-minded bike travelers on an Adventure Cycling trip!

Scholarship awardees will be required to do some community outreach to promote bicycle touring after they return home from the course.
