We’re hunting for exceptional photos from every corner or our planet, taken by discerning travellers like you. So rummage through memory cards, develop old films: if you’ve got pictures that you think are in with a chance, we want to see them!
Amateur photographers are welcome to enter up to four photographs in any of the People, Wildlife, Landscape or Travel Icons categories for the chance to win photo commissions to either Senegal or Ghana. The winners of each category will enjoy the prize of a lifetime, courtesy of Gambia Bird Airlines: a photography commission to Senegal or Ghana, accompanied by a friend.
Both amateur and professional photographers could also enter a Portfolio category, with a cash prize of £3,000. The winner of our Portfolio contest (open to both amateur and professional photographers, one submission permitted per person) will bag themselves £3,000 in cash. Here, we’re after a set of five eye-catching shots that work together as a set – they should be striking images that tell a cohesive and interesting story. Again, you must choose between the Travel Icon, Landscape, People and Wildlife themes.
If your photos don’t quite make the cut, fear not – we’ll award the Runner Up and Highly Commended photographers from each category win incredible Nikon D5300 D-SLR (RRP £719.99) or COOLPIX P66 (RRP £359.99) cameras.
All shortlisted images will be featured in the Photo of the Year gallery at the Destinations Travel Show 2015, in London and Manchester – and the winner of the Visitor Vote will also win a Nikon COOLPIX S9700 (RRP £249.99). For more details, check out Nikon’s website.
So, if you’ve got photos with potential, submit your entries now – you could win a great prize as well as kick-start your career!
How do I enter?
The photos for both the amateur and portfolio competitions can be taken anywhere in the world, but must fit into one of four categories: People, Wildlife, Landscape or Travel Icons. By ‘Travel Icons’, we mean instantly-recognisable places, events, monuments or people – so how about finding an alternative angle to the Eiffel Tower, or a quirky take on Machu Picchu? The more imaginative, the better! You can see some previous winning shots here.
For inspiration for the Portfolio category, read our guide to creating an award-winning photography portfolio.
To enter the competition, visit Wanderlust magazine’s official entry page. Full terms and conditions here.
Deadline for entries: October 31, 2014.
