Do you want to become a travel writer? Have you always dreamed about getting paid to travel the world? We’re on the lookout for talented new authors for our online features section, and have teamed up with Journeys are made @ gapyear.com to give someone the chance to write for us.

Rough Guides is delighted to be offering one lucky reader the chance win £2,000 to spend on creating their perfect trip with Journeys are made @ gapyear.com and have their entry published.

The prize

How to enter

To enter, all you need to do is write a 500-word feature, based on a personal experience, on one of the following themes:

  1. The place I call home

  2. A day I’ll never forget

  3. My greatest adventure

Entries should be emailed to competitions@roughguides.com, either as a .docx (Microsoft Word) file, or pasted into the email itself.

Applications close at 12pm BST on May 25, 2015. Open to UK, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, India, Australia, New Zealand and USA entrants over the age of 18 only.
