Paris: Lower Manhattan Cultural Council Paris Residency 2018 for NYC Artists
The residency program was founded, in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of the City of Paris, to foster a cross-cultural exchange between Paris and New York City.
The 6-month residency provides studio space and financial resources to an artist who will both learn from and share their work with the community at Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris.
Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris is situated in the heart of the Marais district in Central Paris, a dynamic quarter swarming with art galleries, restaurants, museums, and shops, a favorite destination for Parisians. Residents may pursue their artistic practice and develop their creative techniques for the duration of their stay at Cité des Arts. The site includes 270 individual live/work spaces, an exhibition area where artists can display their works, and an auditorium where artists can perform concerts. Since it’s opening in 1965, Cité Internationale des Arts has accommodated more than 18,000 artists from all over the world.
Residents live and work in a private, furnished studio-flat at Cité Internationale des Arts. Flats are approximately 30 sq. meters (325 sq. feet), with kitchenette, private bath and linens. Cité des Arts is located adjacent to the River Seine on Rue de L’Hôtel de Ville at the Pont Marie metro stop in the 4th Arrondissement.
The Mayor’s Office of the City of Paris will provide the selected resident a monthly cash stipend of approximately €1,296 (about US$ 1,411, based on 1 EUR = 1.09 USD)*. Please note, the resident is responsible for rent (€461/month), security deposit (one month rent), artist materials, transportation to, from, and within Paris, utilities, costs associated with securing a 6-month visa and other related expenses.
Residents receive a museum pass that provides free admission and special access to most museums throughout France.
