New Travel-Writing Competition to Beijing + Guggenheim Fellowship in NYC, Bilbao, Venice

  •  Beijing, China: 2013 Travel Writing Scholarship Competition by World Nomads offers aspiring Travel Writers an opportunity to go on location with Rough Guides to Beijing from June 24-July 6th, 2013 to explore, review and update essential travel information for the next edition of ‘The Rough Guide to China.”  To apply, entrants must fill out an entry form and craft a 2500 characters or less (this includes spaces) travel-focused essay based on a personal experience around one of the following themes:
  1. ‘Catching a Moment’
  2. ‘Understanding a Culture through Food’
  3. ‘A Local Encounter that Changed my Perspective’
  4. ‘Sharing Stories – A Glimpse into Another’s Life'”

“It’s up to you to convince our judging panel through your writing that you have the spirit of adventure and passion for travel writing to be chosen for this scholarship.   • NYC/Bilbao/Venice: Fluent in English, Spanish, Italian? The Guggenheim Museum is currently accepting applications for the Hilla Rebay International Fellowship 2013-2014.  This unique multi-site 10-month fellowship provides an opportunity to train in the Curatorial Departments at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum; the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao; and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. The fellow will spend a minimum of three months at each site. The fellowship offers exposure to the operational structure of the multinational museum, as well as rigorous practical museum training experience to individuals interested in pursuing careers in the curatorial field. Each fellow receives funding of $30,000 (subject to taxes). Approximate 2013-2014 dates are as follows:
    * September 16–December 20, 2013: Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York
    * January 13-April 11, 2014: Guggenheim Museum Bilbao, Spain
    * April 28–July 18, 2014: Peggy Guggenheim Collection, VeniceMinimum MA/MPhil in Art History or related academic fields. Doctoral candidates are  strongly encouraged to apply. To be eligible, candidates must have fluency in spoken and written English, Spanish, and Italian.
