6 New Creative Opps for Travelers in Ireland, Portugal, Indonesia, Morocco, British Columbia, New England + more


British Columbia: Unpublished Writers + Poets, 50+ (as of January 1, 2016) invited to submit poetry, fiction or creative non-fiction works in English or French to The Cedric Literary Awards to win publication + $3,000 award. All authors retain copyright to the work(s) they enter. $25 app fee; deadline to submit: May 1, 2016.


Bend + Summer Lake, Oregon: Are you a writer whose ‘work reflects a connection to the desert, recognizing the vital role deserts play worldwide in the ecosystem and the human narrative’? The Waterston Desert Writing Prize will recognize one writer with a $1,500 cash award, a reading and reception at the High Desert Museum in Bend + a four-week residency at Playa at Summer Lake. Free to submit by April 1, 2016. [Note: Playa also has open call for artist applications for residencies up to 8 weeks, $35 app fee by March 1.]

Robert Frost farm

Derry, New Hampshire: The Trustees of the Robert Frost Farm + the Hyla Brook Poets invite international submissions (in English) for the 6th Annual The Frost Farm Prize for metrical poetry. The winner receives $1,000, publication in Evansville Review and an invitation, with honorarium, to read in June 2016 as part of The Hyla Brook Reading Series at the Robert Frost Farm. The reading opens the Frost Farm Poetry Conference, which is devoted to metrical poetry. The winner also receives a scholarship to attend the conference. $5 per poem entry fee; deadline to submit: April 1, 2016.

Creative Writing Fellowships: The National Endowment for the Arts’ Literature Fellowships program offers $25,000 grants in prose (fiction + creative nonfiction) and poetry to published creative writers that enable recipients to set aside time for writing, research, travel + general career advancement. Applications are reviewed through an anonymous process in which the only criteria for review are artistic excellence and artistic merit. Free to submit by March 9, 2016, 11:59pm, EST.

Ireland: Apply to win a $15,000 Study Abroad scholarship for undergrads or master’s degree students from Go Overseas, prize includes $15,000 towards tuition, up to $8500 in accommodation stipend + round-trip flight from Aer Lingus. Free to apply by March 4, 2015.

terminal3.co is building a community for up to 50 remote employees, freelancers, entrepreneurs and anyone who can take their work on everywhere. We will travel in 6 locations in 6 months and book accommodation, co-work space, events, trips and workshops for our participants.

Terminal 3 heads to Portugal, Morocco, Turkey, South Korea, Vietnam and Indonesia, based in central locations. In each destination participants can expect working wifi, remote routers and amazing co-working spaces. Terminal 3 spends a month in each destination. The team behind Terminal 3 currently work remotely. Founders Ioannis Papoutis can be found at Beta-i in Lisbon and you will find Mevish Aslam working remotely in a city near you.’
