Show of hands: Who else (besides me) loves to travel by train?
In 2018, I was living in Olympia, Washington and took Amtrak trains nearly weekly to Portland and Seattle. Not only is it my preferred way to travel, but I also love the ornate, historic train stations, built when craftsmanship still mattered.
As for the residency, Amtrak is looking for “real people” to participate in their #AmtrakTakeMeThere Social Media Residency. Read: NO ‘GLITZY INFLUENCERS!’ If you’ve been looking for a great creative residency to participate in, here’s your boarding call.

“The #AmtrakTakeMeThere Social Media Residency aims to showcase how people from different walks of life travel by rail. By way of social media, our chosen residents will share their individual experiences aboard our long distance trains while engaging users through their respective online communities.
“If you’re interested, we hope you’re a leader in your social media community, and your creativity and energy allows you to connect with your followers at a deeper level. You daydream about cross-country adventures, and as an unconventional traveler, you’d bring a diverse and unique perspective to travel. You feel like the #AmtrakTakeMeThere Social Media Residency is on track with your passions, and you could probably come up with a better train pun than that.”

Up to 8 residencies will be granted, consisting of free 2- to 5-day travel on resident’s Amtrak route of choice, with private sleeper car accommodations with desk and window + $1000 for travel costs/incidentals.
The residency is open to residents of the contiguous US (sorry, Hawaii + Alaska), 18+.
Free to apply by January 31, 2019. Winners will be announced on February 15, 2019.
