Plan ahead: 4 Kickass Creative Residencies in 2019 to Apply for Now in Australia, France, US + Canada

St. Andrews, New Brunswick, Canada: Visual Art Residencies, June-August

Kingsbrae International Residence for the Arts (KIRA) announces a call for visual artists for KIRA 2019, awarding up to 15 artists with one-month residencies in June, July or August to explore their ideas and practice within the context of the region including Kingsbrae Garden, a 27-acre horticultural masterpiece, in the historic seaside town of St. Andrews.

Artists will be provided with an individual studio space with wi-fi, comfortable housing, up to two prepared meals each day and a stipend, up to $1500/month.

$10 (CAD) app fee; deadline to apply: December 15, 2019.

Peumerit, France: Taught Writer’s Retreat, “Threshold,” May 10-17

International writers working in all genres invited to apply for week-long Verse Kraken Writing Retreat with workshops, tutorials and optional excursions. “Inspired by the area where the residency will be taking place, Threshold will explore boundaries and cross-genres. Participants will be inspired by spaces where history and present overlap, where nature and urbanity co-exist.”

Scholarship available for a participant who would not otherwise be able to afford the residency, includes accommodation, meals and tuition, but not transportation.

New Orleans Writer Residencies: January-February
Six writers in prose, poetry or plays/screenplays to be awarded full residency from January 27-February 23, 2019 in a shared “five-room late 19th century classic New Orleans shotgun home,” 15 minutes from French Quarter. Residence also includes “writing room equipped with antique desks from different periods, library with a sofa and fireplace for socialization,” yoga/meditation room, shared bathroom, small shared kitchen, and “deck for enjoying the occasional warm afternoon that New Orleans has, even in January. Continental breakfast will be provided in the dining room on the other side of the shotgun double from 9am to 11am six days a week, as will brunch on Sunday.”

In addition to free accommodation + breakfasts, includes paid airfare/travel up to $350, weekly $200 stipend, weekly excursions around New Orleans, workshop with critique and more. Full FAQ here.

Melbourne or San Francisco: 6-month Redbubble Creative Residency

“Get paid to make art. Be part of a creative community. Learn. Grow. All the cool stuff.” Pitch a creative project you’re passionate about to work on during this 6-month Artist-in-Residence program with Redbubble in either their San Francisco or Melbourne offices. No transportation assistance provided, but Resident to be paid $3,000 AUD/month during the duration of the program to assist with expenses.
